Wow, did you feel that earthquake?
Indiana shook this morning from a 5.2 scale earthquake that was centered in Illinois. Many people I've talked to felt it, but I'm happy to report that I slept through it since it occured at 5:36 a.m. Reports are that Ali Kloska felt it in Kentucky and someone felt it as far east as Detroit. The last earthquake we felt around here was 1987. I remember that. I was in the car and didn't feel it, but everyone was talking about it. Click the headline for the National Geographic story or click here for more info on Indiana earthquakes. Did anyone else feel it? If so, where were you when it happened?
In 1962, Irv Kloska and Bonnie Kowrach stood in St. Adalbert's Basilica in Grand Rapids and pledged their lives to each other. More than 40 years and 13 children later, their family has grown to more than 70 members... and counting. With this blog we keep in touch and share our thoughts - much like we have always done around our kitchen table. But like our table, friends are always invited. Welcome!

I did! It woke me up out of a good sleep and things along the walls were rattling. It lasted for a good while, too. I also remember the quake in 1987. I was out to dinner at a restaurant in Michigan City and felt the table moving and saw the water glasses jiggling! I'm glad you put a year on it. I couldn't quite remember when it was.
It woke me about 5:30 this morning. I thought the dog was scratching her chin while laying up against the bed, so I told her to knock it off and I went back to sleep. Then there was another at 11:15 this morning. I was on the phone with someone 60 miles north of me who felt it about 10 seconds later. Very weird!
I felt it in Chicago! My husband thought it was the wind since we had our window open- he heard the doors rattling, but I was still laying in a shaking bed, so I knew it was NOT the wind! It seemed like it lasted for quite a while- like 30 seconds or so.
It definately woke me up! My windows were open and I heard some sort of noise with it (maybe just the noise of everything shaking) but I knew there was no wind. I thought it had to be an earthquake and it lasted like 20 or 30 seconds (which is long when your bed and room is shaking). On my way out for 7am Mass I asked Mom sheepishly (afraid she might think I had lost it) if by any chance we had an earthquake an hour before (when I looked at my watch it had said right about 5:40am). She looked at me funny and said, "An earthquake?!" But right then Jenny called and confirmed that I had not lost my mind.
The national news today kept saying it was 5.4.
The last earthquake we had that I remember must have been 1987. I just know I was in 3rd grade and Jenny and I were at Mr. Krause's house for 'voice lessons' when the piano started shaking.
very cool (since no one was hurt). I felt like God Himself was shaking me to wake me up.
An Earthquake during the exact time that our Pope Benedict is visting the US? Coincidence? I don't think so...Maybe JPII shakin' things up to remind us to pay attention.
Ok, so I was at Camp Ray Bird with the Marian Seniors, sleeping in one of the lower bunks. I woke up to my bed shaking me back and forth. I heard a train in the distance and thought, "Wow! These poor people have to live with this kind of racket everyday so close to these tracks? It'd be like having an earthquake each day."
Little did I know...
I was in DC this morning and missed out on all the fun back here in Indiana. My husband was woke up and also thought it was a train (even though we don't live near train tracks). He also mentioned thinking that out water heater was about to explode. LOL Two other friends mentioned that it shook their beds and woke them from a sound sleep. My kids were with me in DC and were bummed about missing it. I guess I would choose going to the Papal Mass over an earthquake in IN any day. LOL Love, Ruth
BK,
I felt the earth move under my feet, I thought the sky was a tumblin' down.

And people said Pope Benedict's visit wouldn't really be felt in America!
