Na Zdrowie! The Kloska Family Blog
In 1962, Irv Kloska and Bonnie Kowrach stood in St. Adalbert's Basilica in Grand Rapids and pledged their lives to each other. More than 40 years and 13 children later, their family has grown to more than 70 members... and counting. With this blog we keep in touch and share our thoughts - much like we have always done around our kitchen table. But like our table, friends are always invited. Welcome!

St. Martin De Porres

Today is the Feast Day of St. Martin De Porres (Johnny's saint). As you read St. Martin's life, you will find many reasons why God may have chosen this saint for Johnny. One beautiful thing is that St. Martin was of mixed heritage -the son of a Spanish nobleman and a freed black slave. Johnny always joked with us about being a 'white guy' in a 'black body,' and he swore that although he was black, he still was Polish. Let's remember today to say an extra prayer for John, or ask him to intercede for us along with his 'buddy' St. Martin. (The bottom picture is of Johnny with a friend in Medjugorje).

Someone actually had to complain before 7-Eleven pulled this product
Stores Pull 'Cocaine' Drink After ComplaintsDrink Marketed As 'Legal Alternative'
DALLAS -- Can the Cocaine. That's the order from 7-Eleven headquarters to its franchise owners. The Dallas-based convenience store chain is pulling cans of an energy drink called Cocaine after getting complaints from parents of teens.
Cocaine comes in red cans, with the name spelled out in what are meant to resemble lines of white powder.
The drink is made by Redux Beverages of Las Vegas, which markets it as "The legal alternative." It doesn't have any of the illegal drug, but it does have about twice the caffeine as the typical cup of coffee.

Hello Kraker girls
The Kloska boys say hello to you. They enjoyed your visit and hope you come back this Saturday for the North Carolina game. Before they went to bed they looked at your picture with Jeff Samardjiza. You left a lot of food here. The boys want to teach you a strategy of how to handle the football.
Have a nice day!

Congratulations to the St. Louis Cardinals
It pains me too much to post a picture, but the Cards played like true major league champions and my Tigers, however beloved, played like minor leaguers. Eight errors, poor hitting, all around sub-par performances, and a pitcher cheating in order to get an unfair advantage. We deserved to lose.
Its funny, but as a Tigers fan I usually remain emotionally detached. But as the Tigers went deeper and deeper into the playoffs, I must admit that I wanted them to win more and more badly. I watched until the final out, but as soon as it was made, I turned off the t.v. and threw myself into something else that I had prepared just in case. I call that "managing my emotions."
Well, it was a year that far exceeded all expectations. I'm proud of their effort and accomplishments. At least we have terrific young pitching, a great manager, a great general manager, and therefore a bright future. The $15 I paid for access to their radio broadcasts on the internet was money well spent. I'll probably sign up again next year.
And even though it stung, it's definitely easier to take the loss when your team is a bunch of professionals who are playing on a level playing field with their opponents. That makes the game just a game and not a crusade to prove a point about other more important things. We lost some baseball games in the World Series and I'm disappointed, but on the professional level, its just a game.
Yes, this is very old, but I thought it would be a good Monday morning pick-me-up

I hate you daylight savings time

A Poem to Commemorate The Time Change Today
(No, I haven't let go yet)
I hate you daylight savings time
Hatred as deep as a bitter cold winter's day
Hatred as venomous as a poisonous snake
Ready to pounce on its prey.
I hate you daylight savings time
You've reared your illogical and useless head again today
I mock you, I rebuke you, I deride you openly in the public square
Whose stupid idea was this anyway?
Thanks. I feel better now :) Have a nice day!
